Baker, La. —A new wave of community spirit and wellness is rolling into Baker with the launch of Baker’s Fresh Market—a vibrant monthly event designed to connect residents with local farmers, fresh produce, and each other. Spearheaded by Carpenter & Johnson in collaboration with the Southern University Agricultural Research & Extension Center, the inaugural event takes place Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Baker School Board Office, 14750 Plank Road.

With the theme “Keeping our community a community,” the market places a spotlight on fresh, high-quality meats and produce sourced directly from farmers across Louisiana. More than a simple shopping experience, the event is part of a broader vision to invest in health, agriculture, and economic empowerment for families in the Baker area.

“We’re building something bigger than a market—we’re building unity, health, and pride in Baker,” said Kermit Johnson IV, one of the initiative’s organizers. “When we support each other, we all thrive.”

The event invites residents to enjoy farm-fresh selections, meet local growers, and engage in a family-friendly atmosphere rooted in mutual support. Organizers are encouraging the community to show up, not only to shop but to be part of a growing movement.

Southern University Ag Center, a vital partner in the initiative, brings decades of agricultural education and community outreach to the table, aligning with the market’s goals of sustainability and long-term impact.

Community members can look forward to additional programming and special features at future markets, reinforcing Baker’s commitment to food access, local entrepreneurship, and neighborhood well-being.
