‘Big Red Heart’ Event to Honor Victims of Gun Violence on Valentine’s Day
The event will feature a special address from Reach One Teach One, a community-driven initiative dedicated to outreach and support for affected families.
BATON ROUGE, La. — As the world celebrates love on Valentine’s Day, the Little Rising Sun Baptist Church will open its doors for a different kind of tribute—one of remembrance, healing, and community solidarity. The Big Red Heart program, set for Feb. 14 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., will honor lives lost to gun violence while offering comfort to those left behind.
The event will feature a special address from Reach One Teach One, a community-driven initiative dedicated to outreach and support for affected families. Attendees are encouraged to bring the names of their departed loved ones, which will be displayed on a symbolic heart. In a moving tribute, the church bell will toll for each name read aloud, serving as a solemn reminder of the individuals behind the statistics.
Organizers say the Big Red Heart program is not just about mourning but about uniting the community in a shared commitment to peace, advocacy, and healing. “We want families to know they are not alone,” said event organizer Stephanie Anthony. “This is a space for love, reflection, and collective strength.”
As gun violence continues to leave a lasting impact on communities, events like this serve as a powerful call to action—encouraging dialogue, support, and remembrance.
