WASHINGTON — Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) delivered a scathing rebuke Wednesday during a House Judiciary subcommittee hearing, targeting former President Donald Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and tech billionaire Elon Musk in remarks that ignited both praise and controversy.

Crockett, known for her pointed commentary, accused Bondi of politicizing law enforcement and Musk of operating “above the law,” while condemning Trump’s ongoing influence over Republican rhetoric and government functions.

“We are here to be legislators, not litigators,” Crockett said in her opening statement. “This isn’t about left versus right—it’s about right versus wrong.”

Her remarks came in response to Bondi’s appearance on Fox News, where the Attorney General criticized Crockett’s previous comments about Musk and federal protections afforded to his companies. Crockett said Bondi’s televised statement felt like a threat and accused her of “weaponizing” her role against dissenting voices.

“She is the highest law enforcement agent in this country, and people are watching,” Crockett said. “To suggest that I don’t have the right to free speech is dangerous.”

Crockett also criticized Musk’s business practices, calling him a “crook” and accusing him of leveraging federal contracts and law enforcement protection unavailable to ordinary Americans.

“I don’t like Elon Musk,” she said. “He’s a billionaire using the government like a personal shield.”

She tied her comments to broader concerns about racial bias in law enforcement, recounting her experience as a Black public defender and arguing for the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the justice system.

“I told my boss to hire me because I’m Black,” she said. “When I walk in, I bring a level of understanding that others may not.”

Crockett’s comments were met with silence in the chamber, a moment she acknowledged with pointed satisfaction: “I love it when folks get real quiet after the truth.”

Her remarks come amid a wave of backlash against the Department of Justice’s recent enforcement actions and following protests against Musk held globally. Crockett said threats against members of Congress are rising, blaming divisive rhetoric from political and media figures.

Neither Musk nor Bondi have issued formal responses to Crockett’s statements.

Crockett’s impassioned speech gained traction online, drawing support from progressive media outlets and renewed calls for accountability within government agencies.

“This is about protecting democracy,” Crockett said. “It’s about making sure the law applies to everyone—not just the powerful.”
