District 5 Councilmember Hosts Thanksgiving Community Dinner

BATON ROUGE, La. — District 5 Councilmember Daryl Hurst is inviting the Baton Rouge community to a Thanksgiving dinner this Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Charles R. Kelly Community Center. The event, scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., aims to ensure that no one misses out on a holiday meal this season.

Hurst, who launched a homeless feeding initiative last month, emphasized the collective effort behind the event. "There’s no ‘I’ without the community," he said, recognizing the contributions of local partners, including Tony’s Seafood, the Community Dish Network, and numerous volunteers.

The dinner will feature a traditional Thanksgiving spread, including turkey, dressing, sides, pies, and cakes. Tony’s Seafood is providing 50 cooked turkeys, ensuring attendees enjoy a fresh, festive meal. Music and student ambassadors from Inspire Charter Academy will also be part of the festivities, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

“This event is about bringing together those in need with those who need love,” Hurst said. “It’s a true community effort to make sure every family gets to enjoy the holiday season.”

Hurst encouraged residents to spread the word and bring neighbors who may need a meal. Volunteers are also welcome to join in serving and connecting with the community.

The dinner continues Hurst’s mission to address food insecurity in Baton Rouge. Since its launch, his homeless feeding program has been serving 100 meals three times a week, along with providing shower and laundry services.

For more information or to volunteer, attendees can arrive at the Charles R. Kelly Community Center this Sunday. Leftovers, if available, will be distributed to ensure every participant leaves satisfied.
