Glen Oaks High Alumni Weekend Marks 10 Years of Legacy, Love, and Leadership
The 10th Annual Alumni Weekend wasn’t just a reunion; it was a full-circle homecoming that pulsed with joy, purpose, and remembrance.
BATON ROUGE, La. — Beneath blue skies and the steady hum of celebration, the Glen Oaks High School family marked a powerful milestone this weekend—ten years of unity, legacy, and Panther pride.
The 10th Annual Alumni Weekend wasn’t just a reunion; it was a full-circle homecoming that pulsed with joy, purpose, and remembrance. From the moment the inaugural Gerry Bush and Nolan Gill Golf Tournament teed off Friday morning at Copper Mill Golf Club, the weekend set the tone: honoring those who paved the way while investing in those rising behind them.

Saturday’s alumni picnic transformed the school grounds into a living memory quilt stitched together by smoky barbecue, spicy crawfish, and the laughter of multiple generations. Long tables held trays of jambalaya and ribs while bounce houses and games filled the fields with life. Children giggled through egg hunts and water balloon tosses, while elders cheered on during tug-of-war matches and musical chairs like time hadn’t moved at all.

But beneath the festive surface, the heartbeat of the event was more deeply rooted in responsibility and renewal. Voter registration stations stood among the festivities, bridging celebration with civic duty.

“These kids are watching us,” said alumnus James Vernon. “And we owe them more than a party—we owe them direction. If we don’t lead them, someone else will.”

Every dollar raised throughout the weekend supports student programs at Glen Oaks High, reinforcing a legacy of giving back. Organizers say this decade milestone isn’t just a celebration of the past—it’s a launching pad for the future.

“This is more than a gathering,” one volunteer said. “It’s a movement. It’s what happens when a community refuses to forget where it came from—and boldly decides where it’s going.”

With each passing year, the Glen Oaks Alumni Weekend grows in spirit and scale, cementing its place as one of Baton Rouge’s most meaningful displays of Black excellence, generational strength, and unwavering school pride.
