Southern University's Tyeler Hawkins Receives Prestigious Honor from Black College Nines

BATON ROUGE, LA — Tyeler Hawkins, the standout right fielder from Southern University Baseball hailing from Lexington, KY, has garnered well-deserved recognition. He has been named to the esteemed Black College Nines HBCU Large School Post Season Elite Team.
Throughout the 2024 season, Hawkins proved himself as one of the Southwestern Athletic Conference's premier hitters. His remarkable batting average of .396 during conference play, coupled with 10 home runs, 15 doubles, three triples, and an impressive 48 RBIs off 57 hits, secured his place among the conference's top five in every hitting category. Notably, he leads the conference in both slugging percentage (.660) and on-base plus slugging percentage (1.175).
The selection process for this prestigious honor involved careful consideration of statistical data, mid-season reports, and input from Black College Nines, as well as coaching staffs and sports information directors. Awards for Player, Pitcher, and Coach of the Year were determined through voting by Black College Nines and members of the national media.
