BATON ROUGE, La. – As a rare winter storm blankets Louisiana with snow and plunges temperatures to dangerously low levels, parishes across the region have implemented curfews to ensure public safety.
Authorities warn of hazardous conditions, including icy roads and extreme wind chills, as a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until midnight Wednesday. Additionally, an Extreme Cold Warning will take place from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 9 a.m. Wednesday, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
Curfews Announced Across Parishes
Ascension Parish
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and Gonzales Police Department have enforced a mandatory curfew for all residents from 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22.
East Baton Rouge Parish – City of Zachary
The Zachary Police Department has instituted a curfew beginning earlier at 4 p.m. Tuesday, lasting until 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Iberville Parish
Iberville Parish officials have implemented a curfew from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday. Travel is restricted to essential purposes only, such as work or emergencies.
Livingston Parish
Livingston Parish has issued a dusk-to-dawn curfew, extending until 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22. Officials emphasized that only emergency and essential traffic is permitted, including individuals traveling to and from work.
Pointe Coupee Parish
In Pointe Coupee Parish, a curfew will take effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. Exceptions are limited to first responders and essential workers commuting to or from their jobs.
