Mayor Edwards Launches 2025 Youth Workforce Program in Baton Rouge
More than just a seasonal job program, MYWE equips students with real-world skills, professional development, and exposure to diverse career pathways.

BATON ROUGE, LA – Mayor-President Sid Edwards has launched the 2025 Mayor’s Youth Workforce Experience (MYWE), a summer initiative designed to provide over 400 high school students in East Baton Rouge Parish with paid work opportunities, hands-on career training, and graduation-ready credentials.
More than just a seasonal job program, MYWE equips students with real-world skills, professional development, and exposure to diverse career pathways. Participants will be placed at various host sites across the parish, gaining firsthand experience in industries such as business, technology, education, and public service—all while earning a paycheck.
A cornerstone of this year’s program is the opportunity for students to earn industry-based certifications through Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC). These credentials, now a requirement for high school graduation in Louisiana, will enhance students’ resumes and post-graduation career prospects.
“The Mayor’s Youth Workforce Experience is an investment in Baton Rouge’s future,” said Mayor-President Sid Edwards. “By offering young people a chance to gain meaningful job experience, professional training, and financial compensation, we are preparing the next generation of leaders and skilled professionals.”
The program is made possible through strategic partnerships with Senator Regina Barrow, the Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC), Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC), the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, and Big Buddy. Together, these organizations are building a talent pipeline that empowers local youth and strengthens the community workforce.
Applications are now open, with a deadline of Friday, April 11, 2025. Interested students are encouraged to apply promptly at brla.gov/mywe to secure their spot in this transformative program.
