Mayor-President Sid Edwards to Make First Appearance at Baton Rouge Metro Council Meeting
One of the main agenda items is a $500,000 proposal to revamp facilities at the Baton Rouge Metro Airport.
BATON ROUGE, La. — Newly inaugurated Mayor-President Sid Edwards will attend his first East Baton Rouge Metro Council meeting tonight at 4 p.m., signaling the start of a new era in local leadership. The meeting will address key issues aimed at driving economic growth and infrastructure development across the parish.
One of the main agenda items is a $500,000 proposal to revamp facilities at the Baton Rouge Metro Airport. The planned upgrades include modernizing baggage claim areas, ticketing counters, and rental car services. These enhancements aim to improve the travel experience for residents and visitors while bolstering the airport's functionality.
Another focal point is the allocation of $200,000 to foster economic development at Louisiana State University and Southern University. Each university will receive $100,000 for programs designed to promote entrepreneurship and stimulate local economic activity. LSU’s Ourso College of Business and Southern’s Agricultural and Mechanical College will lead these initiatives under a cooperative agreement involving the city-parish and university leadership.
Edwards, sworn in last week as the 20th Mayor-President, has already begun assembling his administration, signaling a commitment to innovation and collaboration. Tonight’s meeting represents the first opportunity for Edwards to engage with the council on initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for East Baton Rouge residents.
The council’s discussions will set the tone for Edwards’ leadership and the future direction of the city-parish. Stay informed as decisions unfold on these critical projects.
