BATON ROUGE, La. — School officials across South Louisiana have announced closures and operational changes in response to an Arctic blast that is forecast to bring severe winter weather conditions starting Sunday. The closures, scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, span multiple parishes and institutions, affecting public schools, private academies, and higher education campuses.

School Closures and Adjustments by Parish

Ascension Parish

  • Schools will close on both days, transitioning to asynchronous virtual learning. All after-school activities, including the Ascension Parish School Board meeting, are canceled.

Assumption Parish

  • Schools will close on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

East Baton Rouge Parish

  • LSU and Southern University campuses will close, with LSU continuing classes in a format determined by faculty. Southern University will operate remotely.
  • Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) and all public schools will be closed on both days.
  • Several private and charter schools, including Catholic High School, Parkview Baptist, and Helix Community Schools, will close for in-person learning, with some offering virtual or electronic learning days.

West Baton Rouge Parish

  • Schools will close with students in grades 4-12 moving to online learning, and younger students using learning packets. Holy Family School will also hold remote learning on both days.

Livingston Parish

  • Public schools and the central office will close both days, with all after-school activities canceled.

East and West Feliciana Parishes

  • Schools in both parishes will close for Tuesday and Wednesday, with West Feliciana implementing remote learning if weather permits.

Iberville and Pointe Coupee Parishes

  • Schools in both parishes will close out of caution due to potential freezing weather.

St. Helena Parish

  • Schools will close on Tuesday, with updates pending for Wednesday.

Tangipahoa Parish

  • Public schools and Northshore Technical Community College campuses will close on both days.

Impact on Higher Education and Private Institutions

Several private schools, including St. Joseph’s Academy and Martin Luther King Christian Academy, announced closures for Tuesday and Wednesday. Higher education institutions like Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University will conduct remote learning through Wednesday.
