BATON ROUGE, La. — East Baton Rouge Parish officials have set the official trick-or-treating date and times for Halloween festivities. Residents are invited to celebrate on Thursday, October 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For those who prefer to organize their own events at different times, they are welcome to do so.

As the holiday approaches, officials emphasize the importance of safety during trick-or-treating. Residents are encouraged to make plans ahead of time and adhere to several safety guidelines to ensure a fun and secure experience.

Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treating

  1. Plan Your Route: Before heading out, choose a safe route. Stick to well-lit areas and familiar neighborhoods. Inform someone of your whereabouts and estimated return time.
  2. Stay Visible: Opt for reflective or brightly colored costumes, or enhance your child's outfit with reflective tape. Carry flashlights or glow sticks to improve visibility to drivers.
  3. Inspect Treats: Upon returning home, thoroughly check all Halloween treats. Discard any unwrapped or suspicious items. Be especially vigilant about allergens if your child has food allergies.
  4. Follow Sidewalks: Encourage children to walk on sidewalks and use caution when crossing streets. Avoid shortcuts through yards or unlit areas.
  5. Use the Buddy System: Whenever possible, travel in groups with trusted adults. The buddy system enhances safety and adds to the enjoyment of trick-or-treating.

By following these guidelines, families can ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween celebration in East Baton Rouge Parish.
